TabletKiosk customers who purchase a TabletKiosk branded Tablet PC or Ultra-Mobile PC — before September 30, 2010 — preloaded with Windows® 7 Professional are eligible to receive a Windows® XP System Restore disc for the sole use of downgrading their system.
Currently, all systems built and shipped by TabletKiosk, by default, will include Microsoft's Windows® 7 Professional operating system preinstalled on the system's hard drive and a Windows® 7 Professional System Restore disc included in the package, unless otherwise requested by the customer.
Windows Operating System Options
Customers placing an order for a new Tablet PC or Ultra-Mobile PC from TabletKiosk's web store have the option to "Customize" their systems. When customizing a new system, an option for either "Windows® 7 Professional" or "Windows® 7 Professional with Windows® XP System Restore disc" is available. If the latter option is selected, Windows® 7 Professional will be preloaded on their system and both a Windows® 7 Professional System Restore disc and a Windows® XP System Restore disc will be included in the package.
If a TabletKiosk system is not customized, or the former option is selected by the customer, Windows® 7 Professional will be preloaded on their system and a Windows® 7 Professional System Restore Disc will be included in the package. TabletKiosk, at their discretion, may or may not include a Windows® XP System Restore disc.
Corporate customers who purchase in volume may be eligible to receive their systems preinstalled with Windows® XP, provided they intend to purchase at least 25 units over a 12 month period and make a formal request in writing, informing TabletKiosk of their intention to purchase. Contact your sales representative for more information.
How the Downgrade Works
When downgrading a system using the included Windows® XP System Restore disc, a Windows® XP Activation Key is not necessary as the installer will read the licensing information that already resides on the system's hard drive and proceed with the Windows® XP installation. Therefore, the Windows® XP System Restore disc may only be used to downgrade qualifying TabletKiosk Tablet PCs and/or Ultra-Mobile PCs that came preinstalled with Windows® 7 Professional. It can not be used to install Windows® XP on another new personal computer.
When the customer is ready to return to Windows® 7 Professional, they may do so simply by using the included Windows® 7 Professional System Restore disc. Note, however, that both downgrading and upgrading using the System Restore discs are destructive to any existing data stored on the hard drive. Both discs will return the system to a "fresh from the factory" state, and as such, ALL DATA YOU WISH TO KEEP MUST BE BACKED UP TO A SEPARATE STORAGE DEVICE BEFORE ATTEMPTING THE PROCESS.
Requesting a Windows® XP System Restore Disc Separately
If at the time you purchased your qualifying TabletKiosk Tablet PC or Ultra-Mobile PC, didn't request a Windows® XP System Restore disc for the purpose of downgrading your system and would like to receive your disc, you may do so by calling TabletKiosk at 310.782.1201 during regular business hours, or by e-mailing the Sales Department at sales@tabletkiosk.com. Customers are eligible to receive one disc per qualifying system, and may be charged $8.99 per disc plus any applicable shipping charges.
IMPORTANT: Windows® XP End of Life Notification
Microsoft® has officially announced that the End of Life date for their Windows® XP operating system is October 22, 2010. As per a licensing agreement with Microsoft, TabletKiosk will no longer be able to ship systems downgraded with Windows® XP or provide Windows® XP Restore Media for the purpose of downgrading after this date.
You will still be able to downgrade your Tablet PC with Windows® 7 Professional to Windows® XP yourself by contacting Microsoft directly, provided you have your own physical copy of the Windows® XP installation media, your order invoice and the license number/product key code listed on the Windows 7 COA sticker (located on the back of your tablet or in the battery bay).
To place corporate orders for Tablet PCs downgraded to Windows® XP or for any order that is to include a Windows® XP System Restore DVD for the purpose of downgrading, the orders must be placed by September 30, 2010, to assure that they can be properly fulfilled and shipped out before the Windows® XP EOL date.
For more information, or questions, regarding downgrading your TabletKiosk Tablet PC or Ultra-Mobile PC to Windows® XP, or the End of Life notice and availability of Windows® XP, please contact customer support.
